Custom Staircase and Railing Before & After Transformation

Project Overview

This project transformed a dated staircase and railing system into a refined architectural focal point for the home. The original setup featured traditional wood balusters, worn treads, and bulky proportions that closed off the space. The new design introduces clean-lined square newel posts, decorative iron balusters, and updated handrails to create a brighter, more open feel while maintaining warmth and character. Careful attention was given to proportion, transitions, and finish consistency across both levels of the staircase.

Before

The original staircase featured traditional turned wood balusters, heavy wood rails, and visible wear from years of use. The design felt visually busy and dated, and the darker finishes absorbed light rather than enhancing it. The overall structure limited sightlines and lacked a cohesive connection to the rest of the home’s interior.

After

The remodeled staircase now features crisp white square newel posts, decorative iron balusters, and natural wood handrails that add contrast and definition. Updated finishes brighten the space, improve visual flow between levels, and create a balanced blend of classic and modern design. The staircase now serves as a standout architectural feature while improving safety, durability, and long-term appeal.
